Freshest Cars for September's 75 Plate Change

This month saw the arrival of a new number plate - yes folks, we’re in the 75s now! But if you really want to impress the neighbours, why stop at just the latest plate? Go one better and stick it on one of the newest cars hitting the market this autumn.
Don’t just leave them green with envy at your brand-spanking new motor - make them stop, squint, and mutter: “hang on… what is that?”
Here’s the line-up of the freshest cars you can buy this autumn, all guaranteed to get curtains twitching and smartphones buzzing with frantic Google searches.
Audi Q3
A is for Audi, and the Q3 is the compact SUV that’s been dutifully wearing the brand’s standard-issue face for almost 15 years. You could never mistake it for anything other than an Audi. But with the latest Q3, cover up those Four Rings on the nose (go on, do it, just for a laugh!) and suddenly passers-by might find themselves rubbing their chins in perplexity.
Prices kick off just under £39,000, with diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options on the menu. A sleeker Sportback variant joins the line-up in a month or two - but let’s be honest, does a 75 plate still impress in November? Nah, by then you’re already eyeing up the 26 plate.
BYD Atto 2
The Chinese giant BYD (that’s Build Your Dreams, in case you were wondering) has been bulldozing its way into Britain with a fleet of EVs - Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal… and now the Atto 2 joins the party.
It’s a compact, fully electric crossover aimed squarely at the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Mokka-e crowd. Prices start at just under £31,000, with a range of about 261 miles. Affordable, practical, and guaranteed to have your neighbours asking: “A what-2, did you say?"
Chery Tiggo 7 & Tiggo 8
It’s time to pop your cherry with a… well, Chery! (Yes, that’s one ‘r’.) You may never have heard of it, but this Chinese giant has been shifting cars in other markets for decades. In fact, it’s already been sneaking into the UK for a couple of years under its subsidiary brands Jaecoo and Omoda.
Now the parent company is dipping its own big toe into British waters. And the cherry on top (last one, promise) is that it’s kicking things off with not one but two cars.
The Tiggo 7 is a mid-size family SUV, while the Tiggo 8 ups the ante with seven seats. Both promise big-car practicality at not-so-big-car prices. The Tiggo 7 starts at just under £25,000 in petrol form (with a hybrid option too), while the Tiggo 8 begins at around £28,500, again with petrol or turbo-hybrid choices.
Fiat Grand Panda
The Panda has always been Fiat’s cheeky little runabout, but for 2025 it’s gone large. Built on the same platform as the Citroën C3, the Grand Panda channels the boxy, no-nonsense charm of the original - just scaled up into family-friendly proportions.
I know what you’re thinking… electric, right? Wrong. Well, partly wrong. There is an EV version, but it also comes with a 1.2-litre petrol-hybrid, starting at just £18,000 (the electric kicks off at £21,000).
It looks fun, funky, and has a properly quirky interior. And if you do get one, promise us you’ll spec it in Limone Yellow - because for Panda, bright is right!
Jaecoo 5
It’s tempting to say Jaecoo is another brand you’ve never heard of, but with the sheer number of them already prowling UK roads, chances are you’ve already bumped your trolley into one at the supermarket and muttered: “funny looking Range Rover.”
That prestige styling, everyday practicality, and affordable pricing have clearly struck a chord with buyers. Now there’s a new model slotting just below the Jaecoo 7: the 5.
Starting at just £24,500, and offered in both petrol and EV flavours, it’s definitely worth a look. Top tip: if you want that faux-Rangey vibe to make the neighbours do a double-take, go for the EV - it’s a dead ringer. Just don’t forget to cover the Jaecoo badge!
MG IM5 & IM6
Reborn (and now China-owned) MG has been on the ascendency, churning out hit SUVs and EVs. Then, last year, it dropped the all-new Cyberster - an electric roadster with scissor doors that reignited the passion of once-disillusioned enthusiasts. A serious statement of intent.
Now MG is pushing its upmarket aspirations with two entirely new luxury models: the IM5 saloon and the IM6 SUV. Both are electric-only, with prices starting just under £40,000 for the IM5 and around £48,000 for the IM6. That makes them the priciest offerings in the UK MG line-up, slotting neatly below the Cyberster.
The IM6 is a big SUV packing a colossal 751bhp ‘Hurricane Motor’, good for 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and a 388-mile range. The sleeker IM5 saloon delivers similar punch, blitzing 0-62mph in a shocking 3.2 seconds and covering 441 miles between charges.
Nissan Micra
The Micra has been knocking about since the days of cassette tapes and puffball skirts. But for 2025 it’s back - and fully electric.
Underneath, it’s basically the new Renault 5 E-Tech - and that’s no bad thing. Style meets substance in this solid little package, with prices starting from £21,500 (same as its Renault twin).
Compact dimensions, nippy performance, and a range of 200-250 miles depending on spec make it perfect for city life. And if you remember your parents owning a Micra in the 80s, this one’s your chance to relive the nostalgia - just without the rust.
Renault 4 E-Tech
Speaking of Renault and retro legends, the Renault 4 is back - reborn as a fully electric crossover. It fuses the simple honesty of the original with a modern EV platform and chunky, evocative design that nods to the past with details like protruding taillights and even a canvas sliding roof.
This is urban chic for the youthful family that lives by liberté 4 ever, with prices starting from £24,500. If you want a 75-plate car that’ll make kids grin and older folks swoon with nostalgie, this is the one.
Suzuki e-Vitara
Suzuki didn't have an EV offering, but it needed one. So naturally it turned to... India (you thought we were going to say China right?).
Its Maruti Suzuki subsidiary is a giant in its own right, the company’s largest global production base. In fact, Suzuki is investing $8 billion by 2030 to double annual output to four million vehicles and turn India into its global EV hub.
The new e-Vitara is the first fruit of that plan - designed, developed, and built in India. Starting from £26,249 (benefitting from the government’s handy £3,750 EV grant), it offers a 215-mile range and all-wheel drive. Equally at home darting around city streets or ferrying families in rural heartlands, this is Suzuki’s no-nonsense ticket into the electric age.
Really Flex the 75 Plate
So, there you have it: a line-up of cars so new they’ll have your neighbours peering through the blinds, wondering whether they’ve woken up in Shanghai, Turin, or Gujurat. The 75 plate might be the excuse, but the real flex in 2025 is slapping it on something that doesn’t just look new, but really is new.
